PROFESSIONAL FARMER’S MARKETS

During the summer I am sure you’ve seen local farmer’s with road side offerings in your area. These are great places to pick up really fresh fruits and vegetables. Support your local farm people. Buy from these markets. If you’ve noticed in your local grocery store they rarely have locally grown produce. Usually I see stickers that it was grown in Mexico or California. I want my money to stay in Ohio and really in Columbus, Ohio so I purchase my produce, during in season, at my local fruit/veggie stand.

GREEN COLUMBUS

I’ve been doing a little searching for information on local community gardens. If you haven’t heard about this trend, listen up. In some cities groups are combining their time and hard work and cleaning empty lots and planting life-saving gardens to feed themselves and their neighbors. Not only are they getting food, but they are getting the kind of human contact we all need A little hard work (elbow grease as my mother would say) and a great way to make friends There are a lot of places to get information on these gardens. We have listed some sites on our [links] page.

SUMMER GARDENING

One great thing about summer is all the wonderful foliage and flowers with all their glorious colors waving in the breezes. There are so many flowers and plants out there to grow how do you choose the one you want. First thing is to choose colors you like and that will go with the landscaping you’ve chosen. Next you do some research. What plants and flowers are those colors. Now that you have some plants from which to choose you’re going to need to do some more research. Check into the care and maintenance of each of the plants you’ve chosen. After this exercise you can choose of the group you’ve found which plants you’ll be able to care for and where they should be planted, ie shade or sun.
